PiBooks (not to be confused with the PiBook student laptop or the rudimenatry Pi laptop created by some random guy), are hacked chromebooks running as support, dispaly, keyboard, and mouse for a raspberry Pi 4B.This is cnn, if you want news.
if you happen to be using Mac, Linux, or Windows, download Raspberry Pi Imager.
next, choose from the library of various OSs the imager has to offer.
Finally, flash your OS onto an SD. I reccomend getting something like Ubuntu or Ultramarine due to the fact they both instantly boot into a graphical interface.
Next, access the recovery menu on your chromebook, and do the neccessary steps to get to the BIOS menu: here are the steps.
Then, plug your HDMI side of the cable into the Pi (with case) and your USB-A side into the right side of your chromebook. Tie your portable battery with elastic bands to your Pi’s case, and with a USB-C to USB-C power cable, give it a portable power supply. It should have 2 USB-C ports. then, in your BIOS menu, choose the port on your chromebook connecting to your data cable connected to your Pi. After this, you cannot go back to chromeOS, because you cant switch freely from input to input. Back up your data and files so you can get them back onto your PiBook.
For any of the linux distros, its pretty easy. Just download the UI you want to use from the terminal via using bash commands. For MacOS, itll automatically boot. so will Windows 11.
It already connects to your keyboard and cameras and everything, so no need. Why did i add this section?
Go to settings, and ad your neccessary setting if you need them. If you dont need to, skip this step. Your PiBook will still run.
Now, you need a backup plan. Something you should NEVER do is unplug your chromjebook from your Pi. it will not have an OS to run. For this, have a flash drive at your disposal with the latest version of ChromeOS. then re-install and rebuild your PiBook. It’ll most likely save all your data on your Pi. Preffered is a USB-C flash drive.
And..there you go. Its ready to build on itself by downloading source code, and it is optimized for coding. PiBook is the best modification for chromebook...ever!
PiBook is also optimized to do all things a raspberry Pi can do. Have fun!
Various reccomended languages to code in on a PiBook are Bash, lua, HTML, TypeScript, JavaScript, Jelly, Python, C, Lisp, and, of course, Go.
Chromebooks are well known for their small form factor. However, such things as developing are not for this computer. Next, look at a Raspberry Pi. Small form factor, great I/O, good system for sending data, but no portability. The closest thing is a 500+,a desktop, which as you know is newly released. I combined the absolute best of both worlds. if you have an old random chromebook sitting around, and happen to have $35 for a raspberry Pi 4B, give this a shot. Just be careful doing it.
Raspberry Pi imager is an essential tool for any person looking to use Raspberry Pi. This is a little construction notice because in a couple days, i will update my website. If any of you have converted and you're reading this on another computer, use that recovery USB with ChromeOS.
they're up there, but i wanted to let you know!
Hyperlink for those downloading Raspberry Pi Imager if you're running Linux,Mac, or Windows. IT'S HERE.
